Images, growing up--Marilyn Monroe, Anna Nicole Smith (GUESS), Madonna; from album cover art of my favorite bands to high-couture of Chanel or Gucci or Prada. And who could forget the sexiness of some MTV videos (Duran Duran, George Michael, Tina Turner)? At some point, I picked up a 'real' camera and started playing with imagery of the city and city lights, utilizing different angles (like the Dutch angle) and doing my best to learn the F-stops. I then went on to photograph my two children; I dressed them up and did photoshoots of them! I even went so far as to make hand-made greeting cards or birthday invites, often using their printed photos glued to the matte card. I would put flowers or confetti on and in the cards. I'm sure they thought "mama" was a little off her rocker!
I have always loved images, photography, art, and art for art's sake. I love photos that seem magazine-like. I also love candid, emotional pictures with less glamour. As an artist, I feel the need for both. Significantly growing up thumbing through style magazines (I adore fashion) and living eighteen years in Los Angeles with all the billboards, I get it, an image can sell or replace a thousand words to tell a story from love to war.
At some point, I turned the camera toward me. It started as a reflection until I embraced myself.
